Post Editor Buttons?
This plugins allows you to add your own buttons to the post edtor’s toolbar.
I’m talking about the buttons that you see above your content text area when editing posts (b,i,link, img,ul,li).
For example you can add a “h3″ button to make subheaders in your post.
There are virtually endless buttons you can add.

Works great, thank you
Any chances of updating the plugin, in order to add buttons to TinyMCE editor?
I can only add one button. When I try to save a second button, it disappears.
Any idea what might be wrong?
thats nice help for wordpress users as me too :)
I like this alot, but no matter how many times I try to add a new button the plug-in won’t save past the first one. I have only been able to add one button total.
Very nice plugin. Thanks a lot.
I have just uploaded version 1.1 of the plugin that fixes the bug that let’s you add only one button. Now you can add as many as you want.
Thank you for sharing this useful plugin.
And how about adding a way to define attributes for the tags/buttons we add?
I think, this way your plugin would be more general and functional.
I mean something like wordpress editor have “Enter the URL” (href) dialog for the link (a) button.
Thank you for this morning’s update! I’m still not able to save additional buttons past the first one :(
I’m sorry, now I have released version 1.2 that should really take care of the bug.
*Thank you* very much for the quick upgrade Oren! I’m able to add (and delete) multiple buttons now :) However, the plugin doesn’t correctly add buttons for any codes with quotation marks, e.g.:
I tried several times, and it saves as outside the end of the input box. Delete then doesn’t work until you edit it to a code that does work, e.g., .
I hope you can fix it sometime :) I use alot of code with variables in quotation marks. Your plugin will make it SO much easier, rather than copying and pasting all the time.
It would also be nice to sort by button name, and/or move button placement in the editor. I use HTML only and not Tiny MCE.
Doesn’t work in 2.7.1 – It installs – I add a tag – and it doesn’t appear. I use the HTML editor.
I should update – it doesn’t work when you “add new post” only after you’ve saved it as draft… Not a major deal – but bit of a pain.
So I think the plugin also needs to include post-new.php as well.
It works for me at post-new.php
Maybe it’s because you entered post-new.php and only then added/clicked the save button to add the tags.
Try to see if it works for you now at post-new.php
It’s working great for me in 2.82. I don’t use the visual editor and the buttons show up perfect — draft or otherwise. Thanks again for a terrific tool!
very good plugin !!!
Nice work.
I was seeking for a plugin like this for a long time.
Now i can create buttons that insert the shortcodes i need, e.g., for the “language switcher” plugin, like [lang_fr]my french content[/lang_fr] or [lang_en]my english content[/lang_en].
I don’t need any more to type them by myself.
Thanks a lot.
i just can add one button:( how can i add more?
Simply click the “New” link above the submit button and below the 3 text inputs you already have for the first button.
Does not work with WordPress 2.8.4.
Message I get when I press the USE button after activation is “cannot load peb”.
Looks like it is looking for a non-existent peb.php file
@fpmurphy
Thank you for letting me know. I have released a new version that should take care of this issue.
Tested the new version. It works. Thank you.
Thank you for this great plugin, I heard about it in csstricks.com.
Cheers,
Roderick.
i dont have any submit or new link
i only have save change in the Post Editor Buttons section.
There is a “New” link above the save changes button.

Is there any way to get this to work on the page editor as well?
Works great with Posts…. would love to use it on pages too. thanks!
@gidget
As far as I know (and just checked it to be sure), it works on pages as well as posts.
Thanks for the fast response! I’m still having a few problems…
I’m running WP 2.7 (for compatibility with certain other plug-ins). I uploaded the plug-in as per directions, and it works fine … but only on the “Edit Post” page. My added buttons don’t show up on the “Add New Post,” Add New Page” or “Edit Page” managers.
Any insight you can offer would be much appreciated. Thanks!
i thought this was already a feature… i may have just forgot how and can’t figure it out again, but it would be really nice to be able to export the buttons from one site and import them to another.
i like to develop sites live on my server before giving the files over to clients as a way of ensuring i get paid while still allowing them to see the site exactly as it will appear.d
I like this simple way of adding buttons. Does anyone know of a similar simple way of deleting the standard buttons? It is annoying having buttons that I don’t use pushing my custom buttons out of the way.
Just found a way – editing the quicktags.js file itself [http://digwp.com/2009/06/addremove-buttons-from-wordpress-write-panel/]
here is how u can do it, its the best way
Sure would be nice to see a simple backup and restore added, as well as a “mouseover” title/description field added
Does not seem to work with wordpress MU :(
I’m sorry but I have never worked with MU before so I don’t know why this might happen. Anyway, WPMU is now integrated into WP 3.0. So this should solve it.

The plugin seems to be broken in WP 3.1. I am using version 1.7 and the custom buttons disappeared and won’t appear again after upgrading WP to 3.1.
Come to say thank-you for your work and really hope the plugin works in WP 3.1.
Looks like it no longer works after upgrading to 3.2.1. Perhaps open it up at Github for others to fork ?
I had to switch to AddQuicktag, while this isn’t being updated.
